The 2008-09 season will mark the fourth year of the Jose Amat era for Westwood Christian - Varsity Boys basketball. Since being introduced as the Head Coach on August 15, 2005, Coach Amat has met the challenge of all expectations with success.

Amat's numerous accomplishments at the helm of the Warrior program have included ushering Westwood back into the spotlight of Dade County basketball, with impressive victories over one-time dominant opponents. Leading the Warriors back into the limelight, while focusing on developing his players to become solid Christian student-athletes remains his number 1 priority

n 2006-07, Amat built on his success of his first season, as Westwood increased their win total by twice the amount of games. Having the youngest starting-five in the entire state of Florida, including 2 eighth graders and 2 freshmen, the Warriors posted several unexpected victories against quality opponents. Even more impressive was their efforts against bigger, more developed schools in the 3A - 4A and 5A levels.

Last year, Amat and the Warriors accomplished several "firsts". Recording the biggest single-season turnaround in school history, the Warriors won a total of 18 games. The Warriors defeated Miami Christian for the first time in over 10 years. The Warriors also swept their 2-game regular season series against Westminster Christian, Palmer and Miami Country Day. Finishing as the top regular season team, with only 1-district loss was a stunning surprise to all except coach Amat and his staff. "We are instilling pride & passion back into the program" Amat said.

Coach Amat is a proud alumnus of Westwood Christian School, having graduated in 1990. He is the manager of Aldo Surgical & Hospital Supply and is also the league coordinator for South Florida's largest adult basketball league, MidnightAllstars.com. He is inspired by his role-model & father Jose Amat Sr. "My father's accomplishments in life, through his tireless work-ethic and strong faith in the Lord, are something I can only dream of achieving." Coach Amat has been married for 9 years to Milena & has two wonderful children, Lauren & Jose III.
